Palomacia is a short film, made from the filming of two white doves in spatial relation with two mirrors, in games of multiplication, flights, wing flapping and details of their physiognomy. In voice-over we hear a text by philosopher Michael Marder, read by himself. This text, which was re-recorded for this film is a fragment of the lecture Plant Diplomacy, or on the Vegetal Fold Marder held at CAC: Centre of Art and Creativity (Torres Vedras, PT) in February 2022. The lecture revolved around the relations of diplomacy in plants and the idea of the fold as a primordial space for the exercise of diplomacy. The film proposes a metamorphosis between the appearance of white doves, symbols of peace, with their movement of wings folding in on themselves, and the descriptions of the behaviour of plants as mediators of ecosystems.

Mariana Caló (1984) and Francisco Queimadela (1985) studied Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, Portugal and have been working as a duo since 2010. They were Calouste Gulbenkian Scholars in 2012 for an artistic residency at Gasworks, London and Scholars of General Directorate for the Arts (DGArtes) / INOV-Art program (PT), which they developed in Berlin, where they were based between 2008 and 2012. Distinguished with the BES Revelation Award (Serralves Foundation / Espírito Santo Bank, Lisbon / Porto PT) in 2012 and Winners of the International Schermo dell’arte Film Festival (Firenze, IT) award in 2013. Finalists of the EDP Novos Artistas Award (EDP Foundation, Portugal) in 2013. Winners of the first edition of the Paulo Cunha e Silva Prize in 2018 (Porto, PT). In 2021 they participated in the 34th São Paulo Biennial (Sao Paulo, Br).

NO·NO was founded in April 2016 by Luís Loureiro and Ana Ruivo. The gallery began its activity as ACERVO. In 2020 and following a gradual change in the course of the project the gallery moved to its current location in Estrela, and its name changed to NO·NO. As ACERVO the gallery took part in international art fairs such as ARCOlisboa (2019), Estampa (2019), ArteSantander (2019), JustMad (2018-19). Already as NO·NO the gallery took part in ARCOlisboa (2020, 2021, 2022) and DrawingRoom Lisbon (2022). In 2023 the gallery will join the General Section of ARCOlisbon for the first time.

NO·NO’s program relies on the invitation of curators and contributors as well as other collaborations as vehicles for exchange of contemporary artistic production, having collaborated with curators such as Tiago de Abreu Pinto, Nuno Crespo or Eduarda Neves and art critics such as Sérgio Fazenda Rodrigues, João Silvério, Katherine Sirois or Miguel Mesquita.
